Defeated Sanity – First Concert of the Year

Friday the 13th, which seems appropriate, I went to my first concert of the Year. The Headliners were Defeated Sanity, with Malignancy, Prophecy, Strangle Wire supporting and Slaughter Swamp opening the show.

I didn’t know much about any of the bands and this was the first I had seen any of them, but it was good to be back at a show after a month and they all banged hard.

Defeated Sanity have a real primal feel to them. The vocals are guttural and intense. The crowd was vicious in the pit, just violence and mayhem. It was kind of dark and they mostly used blue lights which makes the shots all look the same. Also it looked like the lead singer was drinking tea, which is different from what I’ve seen before.

If you zoom, you can see the teabag

I got a really cool video of the Malignancy drummer just putting on a clinic, but I can’t figure out how to upload it. It was really good though. And none of my pictures came out well.

Prophecy was great. I really enjoyed their set, but the crowd hadn’t quite got worked up enough let like they would later in the night.

Strangle Wire were good as well. but the crowd was really thin at this point. The venue is small, so when it’s empty, it means there’s like ten people there. This shot is basically what there was.

Well, there were a lot more than just 8 people, but it probably felt like that.

It’s an interesting venue. The building has three parts. For big shows they are the Vibes Event Center. And that’s in the middle of the building. For smaller shows, they are the Rock Box, which is the main entrance. For small, underground shows, which is where we were Friday, it’s the Vibes Underground.
